Wednesday, February 27 update

Yesterday we bagged and labeled 20 lap quilts to be handed out at the March guild meeting for volunteers to piece and quilt.
We also measured a bag to use as a pattern for walker bags. Our newest member Nancy is making a pattern and instructions. I will send it out via email when it is ready. We can work on those at our next meeting. Be thinking of other projects you would like to do and share those thoughts next bee. Some are interested in learning how to machine embroider. Maybe a good demonstration topic?

Kodak moment!

Check Back to see what we have learned!  Just Spoolin' Round Beelet will be participating in a Blogger Workshop on Wednesday, February 13.  Check back for details!

Block of the Month - February

Here is the next Block of the Month.  I forgot to mention, Jean, one of our "beeleters" (like that word? - I do) created the two Block of the Month patterns.  I'm looking forward to the March Block!

Scrap Basket
February Block of the Month – Shamrock Block
Cut the following:
Asst. greens:
12 – 3 ½” squares
1 – 6 ½” square
White background:
9 – 2 3/8” squares
2 – 5 ½” squares

1.                  Make 3 four-patches out of the 3 ½” green squares.

2.                  Draw a diagonal line on all of the 2 3/8” white squares. Sew to 3 corners of each of the green 4-patches, sewing on the drawn line, trim and press.

3.                  Draw a diagonal line on the 5 ½” white background squares. Sewing on the line, sew to opposite corners of the 6 ½” green square. Trim and press.

4.                  Assemble the block according to the picture.  This block is a 12 ½” block unfinished.  Square up.

5.                  When pressing the four patches, press to the dark block.  It will go together better.

What creative thing did you make with the Shamrock Block?
Bring it to Guild and show us or Post on Our Blog!

January Block of the Month

One of the projects of our Guild is creating a block of the month.  This is the block for January complete with instructions.

Scrap Basket
January Block of the Month – Woven Heart

Cut the following:Backgound:
1-2 3/4” square4 – 1 ½” squares2 - 6” squares (cut in Half)
Print #1 (darker)4 – 1 ¾” squares1 – 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”
Print #2 (lighter)5 – 1 ¾” squares1 – 2 ¾” x 4 ¼"
Using all the 2 ¾” squares, make a nine-patch.  Sew the 1 ½” background squares to the upper corners of the two 2 ¾” x 4 ¼” pieces.  Using the 2 ¾” background square, sew the block together.  Add the background triangles last, sewing on opposite sides first.  It will be slightly larger than 9 ½” square so be sure to “square-up” the block to 9 ½”.
Be sure to press the nine-patch square toward the dark colors.  Press the first two opposite background triangles before adding the other two triangles.
Do something creative with your new Woven Heart!
